Warning Signs Ignored: Illegal Dumping Persists in Jalan Tasek

IPOH – Despite installing warning signs prohibiting illegal dumping, the issue continues to plague the commercial area of Jalan Tasek.

A survey by Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic revealed that the warning signs erected by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) appear to have little impact on the residents.

Piles of rubbish scattered around the area have become a magnet for stray animals like dogs and rats searching for food scraps. In addition to being an eyesore, the waste emits a foul odour that disrupts the surrounding environment.

What’s more disappointing is that the warning signs state the area is under CCTV surveillance and offenders can be fined up to RM1,000.

However, questions arise about whether MBI actively monitors the area and to what extent fines have been imposed on those violating the rules.

Resident Mohd Hanipah Abd Rashid, 43, said the problem has persisted for a long time without any concrete solution.

“MBI should intensify surveillance and take firm action to curb illegal dumping activities.

“Proactive measures, such as awareness campaigns or the installation of additional rubbish bins, should be implemented,” he said.

Apart from the waste issue, the survey highlighted uneven roads riddled with potholes in the area, posing risks to road users.

“As city residents, are we merely spectators to the worsening cleanliness issues? The question is, if this situation continues, does Ipoh still deserve the title of ‘Cleanest City’ as touted by the Mayor?

“Immediate action and a collective commitment between local authorities and the community are crucial to ensure Jalan Tasek is restored to a clean and comfortable state for everyone.

“Don’t let apathy tarnish the city’s image,” Mohd Hanipah stressed.
