IPOH: “We indeed have the JAKIM halal certificate. The display on the stall’s banner is meant to inform customers.”
This was stated firmly by the operator of the Chennai Biriyani stall at the Ramadan bazaar at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah Meru in response to a viral video questioning the authenticity of the halal certificate.
The video’s owner also claimed that the halal certificate was allegedly obtained incorrectly.
However, Syed Amiruddin explained that the JAKIM halal certificate number was displayed on the banner for reference.
In addition to operating here, the Chennai Biriyani stall is also open at the Ipoh Stadium Ramadan Bazaar.
According to Syed Aminuddin, he was disappointed with the actions of the video owner for uploading such content without verification.
He mentioned that he did not understand the purpose of the video owner’s post, as it created negative perceptions about his stall.
Moreover, the video also falsely portrayed him as an Indian, supposedly to imply that the halal certificate held was questionable.
“We truly possess a JAKIM halal certificate because Chennai Biriyani operates through our existing premise, Restoran Al-Mathaam Syed Corner in Station 18.
“Al Mathaam Syed Sdn. Bhd. is the holder of the JAKIM halal certificate for food and beverages, valid until August 2026.
“The Chennai Biriyani menu was previously only sold at the restaurant, but during Ramadan, we expanded by setting up a stall at the Ramadan bazaar.
“Actually, many customers are familiar with Restoran Al Mathaam, but this viral video has caused confusion among the public,” he told Ipoh Echo / Peraktastic.
Syed Amiruddin stressed that the owner of the viral video should clarify and correct their mistake.
