TAIPING: A 140-year-old rain tree in Taiping Lake Garden that had previously fallen has been restored as part of a conservation process.

The work was carried out by a contractor appointed by the Taiping Municipal Council (MPT).

According to the social media page I Love Taiping, the effort to save this historic tree is important as part of Taiping’s history.

It was stated that a crane was used to lift the tree in order to correct its position so it could stand firm again.

“During this process, large branches of the tree that were cut down were used as temporary supports, helping to balance the tree’s body and ensure stability.

“The next step is to install metal supports as long-term support to ensure the ‘rain tree’ continues to live and adds to our landscape,” the statement said.

The next phase of recovery will involve fertilizing the tree to accelerate root recovery and cutting off dead roots and stems to prevent the spread of damage.

Pruning was also carried out to reduce the weight of the tree.

Present during the restoration works were Aulong State Assemblyman (ADUN) Teh Kok Lim, Pokok Assam ADUN Ong Seng Guan, and MPT Council Members.

In the incident on the afternoon of February 14, the tree was believed to have fallen due to heavy rain and strong winds.

The incident raised concerns among the community about the safety of the rain tree, which is a beautiful feature of the Taiping Lake Garden.
