LUMUT: The Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) successfully rescued an Australian-owned yacht, Meridian of Sydney, which had been adrift for four days in the northwestern waters of Pulau Perak.

In a statement issued by the Strategic Communications Branch of the Western Fleet Command Headquarters in Lumut, it was revealed that the yacht had suffered engine and sail damage, leaving it unable to continue its journey.

Onboard was Australian national Captain Kelvin Holly, who had been at sea since March 8.

“The Maritime Region 3 Operations Centre received information at 11.30 am on Wednesday from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) regarding communication failure with the yacht en route from Krabi to Langkawi.

“TLDM immediately deployed KD Mahamiru to locate the vessel and prevent any untoward incidents,” the statement said.

The navy vessel towed the yacht to Langkawi Jetty, where it was handed over to the MMEA for further action.

The statement further highlighted that the efficiency and professionalism demonstrated by TLDM personnel in the operation underscored their commitment to ensuring maritime safety.
