IPOH: The Perak government has entered into a strategic partnership with airlines AirAsia and Batik Air to establish a joint committee to explore the feasibility of introducing new flight routes to the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) here.
State executive councilor for Tourism, Industry, Investment, and Corridor Development Loh Sze Yee said the collaboration resulted from a series of strategic meetings held last month between the state government and several carriers, including Scoot, AirAsia, and Batik Air.
He said the move reflects the state’s strong commitment to expanding air accessibility and boosting Perak’s tourism sector.
“As part of this strategic collaboration, AirAsia and Batik Air have also agreed to share relevant data with the state government to support data-driven planning and analysis,” he said during the winding-up session at the Perak State Legislative Assembly sitting at the Perak Darul Ridzuan building here on Sunday (April 21).
Loh added that the state, through Tourism Perak, would continue to intensify its promotional efforts by fully leveraging digital technology, particularly through social media platforms.
“To strengthen Perak’s presence in the international market, especially in China, Tourism Perak has taken proactive steps by registering official accounts on key Chinese platforms such as Xiaohongshu, Douyin, WeChat, and Kuaishou.
“These platforms command large user bases and are highly influential among Chinese audiences, making them strategic tools to attract more tourists from that market to Perak,” he said.
He also said the state would continue organizing tourism-related programs and events to revitalize selected destinations, offering tourists a more immersive cultural experience while strengthening bonds between visitors and the local community.
“For long-term growth, we also prioritize local human capital development by actively involving communities in tourism training, courses, and briefings under the ‘Think Tourism, Act Tourism’ approach.
“This initiative not only enhances service quality and hospitality but also has strong potential to encourage repeat visits to the state,” he added.
