SITIAWAN: The MyKiosk program—an initiative by the government to provide affordable business spaces for small traders—has received a positive response here.
In fact, kiosk sales have been thriving and widely praised by hawkers.
Astaka assemblyman Jason Ng Thien Yeong stated that claims labelling MyKiosk as a ‘white elephant’ project are baseless.
According to him, MyKiosk offers organized, safe, and comfortable business spaces to the B40 group, roadside hawkers, and small-scale entrepreneurs.
“Since its implementation in Sitiawan, the project has not only provided small traders with a legal and comfortable place to operate but has also enhanced the town’s appearance and brought positive socioeconomic impact.
“For instance, the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) placed MyKiosks on vacant land next to a Hindu temple in downtown Sitiawan.
“Now, eight out of the ten kiosks have been rented—most operating from evening until late at night—while the remaining two have already received six applications,” he explained.
With a rental rate of just RM100 per month, MyKiosk eases traders’ financial burden and supports them in earning a living amid economic challenges.
Feedback from hawkers indicates that MyKiosk offers various amenities and strong sales performance, making the initiative well-received by both traders and the local community.
Jason added that the program should be expanded gradually based on local demand.
“If there are unused kiosks in other areas, I suggest relocating them to Sitiawan, as the Bandar Baru Setia Awan Perdana (BBSAP) Small Traders and Hawkers Association is still awaiting approval for 30 additional MyKiosk units,” he said.
