MyKiosk 2.0 brings modern, flexible kiosks for Ipoh traders

40 new units are being built at three strategic locations across the city

IPOH: 40 new MyKiosk 2.0 units are being built this year for RM963,500.30, with an average cost of RM25,000 per unit, says Ipoh Mayor, Zamakhsari Hanipah.

He said the project’s second phase received a RM1mil allocation from the Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT) to set up kiosks at three strategic locations across the city.

“Seventeen units have been completed and began operating at Jalan Jumbo Jet this May. Another 17 units at Station 18 are currently undergoing rectification works by the contractor before being handed over to Ipoh City Council’s Facility Management Department.

“Meanwhile, six more units at Jalan Ashby are still in the site preparation phase,” he said in a statement today.

Zamakhasari said the MyKiosk 2.0 initiative is an upgraded version of the first phase, featuring improvements such as higher-capacity solar panels, weather-resistant design, and better-organised layouts tailored for food and beverage or multipurpose use.

“Unlike MyKiosk 1.0, which had a more generic design, version 2.0 offers greater flexibility and is better aligned with the current needs of traders, particularly in terms of usability and structural durability under various weather conditions,” he added.

The first phase of the MyKiosk project, implemented in 2023, saw the construction of 55 kiosks with a total allocation of RM825,000.

All the units under the first phase have been installed and are fully operational in Meru, Ipoh, since early this year.

Zamakhsari said each work package under both phases was awarded to different contractors through an open quotation process by the government procurement procedures.

“Each contractor used their own design and technical proposal, including different kiosk suppliers, based on the submitted proposals during evaluation,” he said.

The city council also expressed appreciation to KPKT for its continued support in empowering urban communities through inclusive and trader-friendly initiatives.

“We hope the MyKiosk project will continue to directly benefit small traders while creating a cleaner, more organised, and competitive business environment in Ipoh,” he added.
