The Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh’s recent Mother’s Day high tea at Impiana Hotel brought together 120 guests to honour the strength and spirit of single mothers. This year’s theme, “Through a Mother’s Eyes,” focused on the women who carry the weight of motherhood alone, with courage and grace.

Emcee Yasmin Yusof opened the event with a heartfelt rendition of P. Ramlee’s “Ibu.” Her performance struck a deep chord with many in the room and set the emotional tone for the afternoon.

Club President Ruth Robert welcomed guests and reminded the crowd that the celebration was about recognising mothers who continue to persevere through pressure, judgment and exhaustion to care for their children.

“Motherhood doesn’t come with a manual, and it certainly doesn’t come with applause,” she said. “That’s why we are here , to remind mothers, especially those doing it alone, that they matter.”

ADUN for Buntong, YB Tulasi Manogaran, offered strong words of support. She acknowledged the quiet struggles of single parents and affirmed her commitment to helping families access aid, education and healthcare. She spoke openly about the realities her office faces daily and praised the role of community organisations like Inner Wheel in stepping in where help is needed most.

“Single mothers are doing everything  working, caregiving, sacrificing without complaint,” she said. “We must not wait until a crisis to offer help. They deserve consistent support.

YB Tulasi also pledged RM2,000 to support the club’s ongoing work.

Nine single mothers were selected to receive care packs. Organising Chairperson Vasugi Sundralingam thanked the guests, sponsors, NGOs, and volunteers who made the event possible. Her message was clear. This gathering was about respect, visibility and support for women who are often overlooked.

Performances by Sachpteet, Vivek Rai, Thivgen and RDF Dhol added colour and energy to the afternoon. The mood shifted from reflective to uplifting as the room came alive with music and movement.
