IPOH: The iconic Ipoh KTM Station has undergone a facelift, with major improvements including the repair of previously leaking ceilings and upgrades to the cafeteria and public toilets, much to the relief of visitors and commuters.
The refurbishment, which was completed on May 15, offers a more comfortable experience for passengers compared to the past.
According to a statement by the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) on Saturday, the repair works involved repainting and fixing the ceilings and walls within the arrival area.
“In addition to structural repairs, the toilets and cafeteria were also refurbished to enhance user comfort,” it said.
“RAC also carried out electrical and mechanical upgrades in the area, all of which were completed by mid-May,” the statement added.
Visitors have welcomed the improvements, saying they contribute positively to the city’s image while also ensuring greater comfort for the public.
One such visitor, Fuad Muhamad Khusairi, noted that the changes were noticeable and appreciated, especially the previously problematic ceilings, which no longer leak during heavy downpours.
“We used to face issues with water dripping onto the floor whenever it rained heavily.
“The toilets were also unsatisfactory before, but now they look better and are more comfortable for the public, especially during weekends and school holidays when it gets crowded,” he said.
He added that the station is a vital gateway for tourists and should be properly maintained regularly.
Previously, it was reported that repair works on the roof of the station were expected to be completed by mid-May to address long-standing leakage issues, particularly in the waiting areas.
RAC also confirmed that Hotel Majestic, housed within the heritage building, would undergo restoration as part of a broader, phased station revitalisation project.
Often referred to as the “Taj Mahal of Ipoh”, the century-old station continues to serve thousands of commuters daily.
