Fresh Bread & Last-Minute Cakes

By Anne Das
Let’s face it. Most of us are last-minute people. Forgotten birthdays, impromptu dinner plans, last-minute school events. Suddenly you need a cake, and the usual suspects are either too big, too sweet, or just too pricey.

Bake & Take has ready-made cakes available daily and takes last-minute custom bookings with just one day’s notice. Cakes start from 700 grams, which is more than enough for a family of four, but they also do larger sizes for parties or events.
The cakes are beautifully done. No fuss. No running around. Just walk in, choose your cake, and you’re good to go.
You’ll find Bake & Take at Ipoh Garden Plaza, sharing the same row as Shen Jai College. This welcoming space has found the sweet spot between convenience and quality.

Whole cakes are available daily from RM58. If you need something custom, just give them one day’s notice. The carrot cake is oh so moist. The beautifully made red velvet wasn’t overly sweet, and the fruit tart has the perfect crust with a tangy aftertaste.
Everything here is proudly made in-house and looks as good on Instagram as it does on your plate.
Sourdough fans will not leave empty-handed either. Every morning, they bake a full spread with flavours ranging from Wholemeal to Kimchi to Walnut Raisin. Prices are affordable, starting at RM8.90 and going up to RM18 for the fanciest loaf.

Their famous coconut bun comes with proper inti, homemade and generous. The sambal ikan bilis bun is fluffy, spicy and satisfying. Just like the breads and cakes, everything is made using fresh ingredients and solid technique. Whether sweet or savoury, the quality stays consistent across the board.
Clean flavours and everything made in-house.

What many people might not know is that Bake & Take also serves as a training ground for future chefs. It is the live kitchen for students from Shen Jai TVET College in Ipoh. The college offers hands-on courses like Pastry Production, Food Preparation and Production, and Food and Beverage Service. Students do not just learn in classrooms.
They work side by side with the chefs, baking real bread and serving real customers.

Chef Mui (Teng Lai Yane) & and Chef Andi Sutrisno run the show at Bake & Take. She is the one behind those clean, creative cakes. He has the hands for breads and buns, both local and Western. Together, they keep the kitchen sharp and the students on their toes.
This setup is exactly why students like Darren (Pic. Below) get to shine. He took up Food Preparation and Production at Shen Jai TVET College and is now preparing to represent the college at a culinary competition in Penang, next month.

Bake & Take also runs weekend pastry workshops for kids aged six to 17. Minimum five per class. Booking required. It is a great way to get young hands messy in the best possible way.
They also serve refreshing smoothies like carrot, orange, pineapple, lemon and apple, all at RM5.90. The coffee and tea menu covers the basics, and if you are dropping by, it is a nice spot to slow down for a bit with something sweet.

Good News!!!
Senior citizens get 20 percent off with their ID card. A little bonus that regulars appreciate.
So, if you are over the overpriced chain bakeries or tired of factory bread pretending to be artisanal, Bake & Take is worth the stop. Real cakes. Real bread.
