IPOH – The area of Perak’s Permanent Forest Reserve is currently recorded at 988,723.93 hectares or 46.8 percent of the state’s total land area.
Of that total, more than 495,000 hectares have been identified as protection forest areas that function as water catchments, soil protection, wildlife habitats, as well as biodiversity research and conservation areas.
As a step to strengthen environmentally sensitive areas, the state government also gazetted an additional 1,259.02 hectares of new Permanent Forest Reserve in 2025 involving inland forest and mangrove forest areas.

In the aspect of management, the Perak State Forestry Department has completed the Perak State Forest Management Plan Document 2026–2035 to ensure forest governance is implemented more systematically and sustainably.
This effort is reinforced through the Kuala Gula Mangrove Forest Reserve Management Plan 2026–2030, which focuses on preserving the coastal ecosystem and supporting the economy of the local community.
At the same time, Pulau Kalumpang continues to be preserved as a High Conservation Value Area (HCVA) due to its biodiversity value and archaeological heritage.

To ensure the survival of the state’s heritage species, the Perak State Forestry Department also implemented a nursery program for 200 seeds and 150 saplings of the Kalumpang Jari Tree (Sterculia foetida) in Bukit Larut.
Perak also achieved success by recording the planting of 11.4 million trees through the Greening Malaysia Programme: 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign, thereby exceeding the set national target.
In addition, the state successfully maintained the Malaysian Criteria and Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management Certification (MC&I SFM) for the period 2024 to 2029 as recognition of sustainable forest management.

The state government’s ongoing commitment was also demonstrated through a working visit by the Perak State Government Secretary, Dato’ Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, to several Permanent Forest Reserve areas in Kuala Kangsar and Larut Matang.
This conservation is in line with the state government’s aspirations through Perak Sejahtera 2030.
