IPOH: A covered parking structure and storage unit built without approval on a reserved open space area were demolished in an operation carried out by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) on Tuesday.
According to an MBI statement, the case had been granted an extension for compliance following an earlier notice. However, the structures were still not demolished by the owner.

As a result, approximately 80 personnel, with cooperation from various agencies including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Perak Land and Mines Office (PTG), were deployed for the demolition operation.
“MBI carried out Phase 2 of the 2026 Operation to Demolish Unauthorised Structures,” the statement said.
“It is a follow-up matter discussed in the Local Council Advisory Committee Meeting on Traffic, Transport and Infrastructure involving unauthorised structures used as car sheds and storage units on reserved open space land,” it added.

The operation, which lasted about three hours, was carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures.
This includes the issuance of a Demolition Notice under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133), with a 30-day compliance order issued prior to enforcement action.
