IPOH: After making history with its debut staging last year, the Royal Bangsawan Theatre production Beting Beras Basah (BBB) 2.0 is set to return on a grander scale with performances scheduled at Panggung Sari, Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur from October 30 to November 1.
Produced by Datin Anne Zahurin through Warisan Moraza, the production once again features Reza Hasbi in the lead role in a performance inspired by the founding history of the Perak Sultanate through the legend of Beting Beras Basah.
Deputy President of the Perak State Cultural Council, Azmin Ismail, said the success of BBB 1.0, which was staged at the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) Perak Auditorium last year in collaboration with the Melaka Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), paved the way for the production to reach one of the country’s most prestigious performing arts venues.

He said a total of five performances will be held, providing an opportunity for bangsawan and theatre practitioners from Perak to showcase their talents at Istana Budaya while strengthening regional cultural ties through the participation of arts practitioners from Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand.
“BBB 2.0 introduces several enhancements, including the use of projection mapping and digital holographic technology, as well as improvements in choreography, production quality and the inclusion of new cast members.
“Online ticket sales have been open since July, and we are targeting more than 5,000 audience members throughout the run of the production,” he said.
Meanwhile, Reza described the opportunity to reprise the lead role, particularly at Istana Budaya, as one of the biggest achievements of his artistic career.
“The trust placed in me is a great responsibility and I will give my best performance to ensure the character leaves a lasting impact on audiences.
“I also hope to uphold the dignity of bangsawan theatre and the nation’s cultural heritage on a stage that represents the dream of every performer,” he said.
BBB previously made history by becoming the country’s first royal bangsawan production to incorporate digital holographic technology, earning recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records.
Further details regarding online ticket bookings are expected to be announced once the production’s official website is fully completed.
