IPOH: Perak has been ranked among the top five states with the highest number of domestic violence cases, recording 425 cases so far this year.
According to Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad, this figure—recorded within just four months—represents a twofold increase compared to 175 cases during the same period last year.
“Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) statistics showed 7,116 domestic violence cases were recorded nationwide last year.

“As of April this year, 2,467 cases have already been reported, with Perak alone accounting for 842 cases last year.
“This places Perak among the top five states in terms of domestic violence cases per population ratio, at a rate of 0.02.
“These figures reflect that more victims are now brave enough to come forward and report incidents, in line with the rising awareness in society,” she said.
She made these remarks while officiating the ‘Wellbeing Advocacy Program for Women @ Domestic Violence (Aku Wanita @KRT) Perak Edition’ on Wednesday.

The program, organised by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) through the Department of Women’s Development (JPW), aims to tackle domestic violence issues.
With the theme ‘Let’s Dare to Report’, the initiative serves as a strategic platform to raise awareness and encourage victims to speak out.
“It offers a safe space for support and recovery, including psychological intervention sessions called ‘K-Chat’ with trained counselors.
“There are also survivor testimonies and forums with experts,” she added.
The event successfully gathered around 500 participants from various backgrounds.
