TAIPING: The Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) has been awarded the MyPlace Award 2025 (Emerald Winner) in the Indoor Space (Public Indoor Space) category.
The award was given for the project titled “Art in the Market: Breathing Creativity into Taiping’s Past.”
For this achievement, MPT selected Taiping Market as the featured project.
The award ceremony was held on 12 September 2025 at Le Méridien Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
The MyPlace Awards are organized by the Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP) to recognize efforts in enhancing public spaces that are innovative and liveable.
The event was officiated by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Datuk Wira M. Noor Azman Taib.
The Taiping Old Market upgrading project, which cost RM11.5 million, has been fully completed and is now a state heritage icon, preserving the historical building originally constructed in 1884.
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), approved the funding for the market’s revitalization as part of broader development efforts in Taiping.
The project has successfully conserved the Taiping Old Market, one of the oldest markets in Malaysia, for future generations.
