IPOH: Authorities are being urged to take seriously the issue of several pedigree cats allegedly being caged and sold openly in front of Hollywood Restaurant, here.

The matter has been raised multiple times by various parties, and now Stray Free Foundation has posted about it again via their Instagram account.

In the caption shared on Instagram, they questioned the appropriateness of selling cats so openly by the roadside.

“These cats appear lethargic, inactive, and are exposed to heat, loud noises, and stress.

“This is not a responsible way to care for or sell animals.

“Cats are living beings, not merchandise to be displayed by the roadside,” the statement said.

They added that the stall operates from around 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

According to the statement, the cats sold include breeds such as Bengal, British Shorthair, and Persian mix.

“The cats appear inactive, just sitting quietly in cages — possibly stressed, dehydrated, or unwell.

“They are being sold under a roadside canopy, with cages placed on tables,” add the statement.

The majority of comments on the post agreed with the concerns raised, with many saying this issue has been going on for quite some time.

“Yes, this has been happening for many years in front of that restaurant. I’ve spoken to the business owner, but they just ignored it,” said one netizen.

“They’ve been doing this since 2019,” another netizen added.

“When will the authorities enforce laws to ban these unlicensed animal sales? It’s heartbreaking to see,” wrote another commenter.

Meanwhile, Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic reached out to the Ipoh City Council (MBI) for a comment regarding the issue, and the council stated that they will look into the matter.

“We will investigate the complaint and the issue,” they responded briefly.
