Dangers of Unregistered Products and Cosmetics

By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: Did you know that selling unregistered products and non-notified cosmetics is illegal and can result in fines or imprisonment?

The penalties are not light — fines of up to RM50,000 for individuals or RM100,000 for companies if convicted, in addition to imprisonment of up to five years.

As a preventive measure, the Perak State Health Department, through the Perak Pharmaceutical Enforcement Branch (CPF), conducted an operation to take enforcement action.

The operation targeted a morning market and a night market in the Perak area, focusing on the sale of unregistered products and non-notified cosmetics.

A total of 9 stalls were raided, with 78 types of products seized, valued at RM8,020.

The public can check the registration status of medicines or the notification status of cosmetics by visiting the website https://www.npra.gov.my under the “Product Status” section.

They may also contact the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) at 03-7883 5400.

The public is encouraged to lodge complaints and provide information on suspicious health products as part of a collective effort to curb the sale of such items.
