More than 70 doctors from across Perak gathered recently at Cycle & Carriage Ipoh for an evening that celebrated friendship and the shared spirit of service.
The theme “Caring for the Caregivers” focused on recognising those who dedicate their lives to caring for others. It was a reminder that doctors face emotional and physical demands too, and that looking after their well-being is essential to maintaining a healthy and compassionate healthcare system.
The Event was jointly organised by the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Perak Branch and the Perak Medical Practitioners Society (PMPS), in collaboration with Pantai Hospital Ipoh and Cycle & Carriage.
Such gatherings provide a platform for doctors from different institutions to reconnect, exchange perspectives, and strengthen professional ties within the medical community.
Doctors’ Day is celebrated annually to acknowledge the vital contributions of medical professionals and to encourage collaboration between public and private healthcare sectors. This year’s celebration carried special meaning for Ipoh’s medical fraternity, as it marked a return to where it all began.
The first-ever Doctors’ Day celebration in Malaysia was initiated in Ipoh in 2014 by MMA, FPMPAM and PMPS, making this year’s event a fitting full-circle moment.
In his welcoming remarks, organising chairman and MMA Perak Chairman Dr. Monesh Pillai spoke about the strength of unity among doctors. “Unity is what gives us strength. When we doctors stand together and speak with one voice, we make progress,” he said, acknowledging the ongoing challenges faced by medical professionals, from rising healthcare costs to policy hurdles.
The celebration carried that same spirit throughout the evening. Over dinner and music, doctors from both the public and private sectors mingled easily, exchanging stories in a setting that encouraged camaraderie.
In his address, YB Sivanesan praised the medical community for their dedication while sharing updates on state initiatives to support the welfare of doctors and healthcare workers in Perak.
Organisers extended their appreciation to Ms. Yow, CEO of Pantai Hospital Ipoh, for her continued support of the medical fraternity, and to Cycle & Carriage for their gracious hospitality and collaboration throughout the event.
The night ended on a high note with doctors not just celebrating their profession, but their shared passion for service.
