Peanut Products Using Unauthorised Halal Logo Seized

By Zaki Salleh

KUALA KANGSAR: A food processing factory in Sungai Siput was inspected after being suspected of using an unauthorised halal logo on its peanut products.

The operation was carried out by enforcement officers from the Perak branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), in collaboration with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim).

Perak KPDN Director, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, said the operation, conducted on Monday, found that the factory was producing food products—specifically peanuts—and using a halal logo on its packaging.

According to him, the food products were believed to be distributed and sold across Peninsular Malaysia, particularly in Perak.

“Further inspection revealed that the factory owner failed to produce a valid Malaysian Halal Certification,” he said.

“As a result, legal action was taken under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011,” he added.

A total of 661 packs of peanuts bearing the unauthorised halal logo, worth over RM5,300, were seized along with related documents.
