We do not need to look far to see instances of hatred, discontent, and downright rude remarks being made by netizens and everyday people. I am not making a blanket statement, but it would be folly to say that everything is rosy.
There seems to be a decline in basic manners, morals, and even moderation. I see it every day, like a broken record played out on repeat. This is not the Malaysia that was, and it is certainly not the Malaysia we know.
I have long been an advocate of free speech; however, the facility is not to be misused, abused, or stretched in the name of vocal freedom. Lately, things seem to have gotten out of hand. Social media is the perfect example of rotten apples plying their trade, all under the mask of anonymity.
I have always carried a flag for moderation in words and actions. I urge all to practice this to the best of our abilities. Undoubtedly, there will be certain quarters aiming to provoke and divide. My simple advice is: pay no attention to these quarters.
Malaysians, should choose the demure approach, do not allow tempers to flare easily. It is my sincere hope that moderation, manners, and decorum take centre stage in our everyday life. We are, after all, a Malaysian family, who have and will always be there for one another. It is up to you and me—no one else.
