“If You’ve Stolen It, At Least Close It Back Up”: Cable Theft Cases Rise in Manjoi

By Aida Aziz

IPOH: Stealing cables is one thing, but at the very least, the open manhole should be covered again to ensure it does not become a hidden trap that could injure members of the public.

According to a social media user, there was yet another case of an open manhole along Jalan Pasar, Sungai Tapah Tambahan.

Accustomed to seeing such situations, the user hoped that the cable thieves would at least have a sense of responsibility to close the manhole after opening it.

“At dawn, we were informed that there was an open manhole on Jalan Pasar, Sungai Tapah Tambahan. Some residents here helped to cover it again using crowbars, as this is one of the busiest routes in the morning.

“You who did this work, close it back up. This road is used by children going to school—don’t you feel guilty if a child were to fall in later?” the user said.

Cases of stolen manhole covers and wide-open manholes in the Manjoi area are nothing new. In fact, many road users and residents have expressed concern that such open holes could lead to fatalities, especially during dark conditions.
