IPOH: A total of 7,000 packs of briyani were distributed within an hour to the public at the Masjid Sultan Idris Shah II, Perak State Mosque here today.

The briyani distribution programme, organised for breaking fast during Ramadan, was held by the Perak Indian Muslim Association (PRIM).

According to PRIM Chairman Mohamed Arib, the annual programme, now in its ninth year, started at 3:30 p.m. and concluded at 4:30 p.m.

He said the programme was initially held at the Masjid India grounds, but limited space and heavy traffic caused difficulties for visitors.

“We started by distributing 1,000 pax of briyani, then increased to 2,000, 3,000, and now it has reached 7,000 pax. Our original target was 10,000 pax, but 7,000 is sufficient,” he explained.

Mohamed Arib added that the main objective of the programme is to share blessings during the holy month of Ramadan while promoting harmony and fostering goodwill among the people of Perak.

“Today, we see not only Muslims but also non-Muslims from various communities joining in the distribution, making it a truly inclusive event,” he said.

PRIM is also expected to hold a Hari Raya aid programme for underprivileged and B40 families next week at the Masjid Cina, targeting around 150 families, with assistance valued at RM200 per family.

The programme today was also attended by Yang Di-Pertua of the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini, and Chief Imam of Masjid Sultan Idris Shah II, Sahibus Fadilah Abd Farid Salleh.
