A Brunch Spread Worth Waking Up For at Six Half Coffee Ipoh

By Anne Das

A good brunch, like a good weekend ritual, should feel abundant.

Eggs, toast, legit bacon and mushrooms arrive at the table, with cakes waiting nearby and a latte crowned with a perfect heart of foam. That’s exactly the scene at Six Half Coffee.

Located on the first floor at Pusat Perdagangan Canning in Ipoh, Six Half Coffee takes its name from its closing time. The doors shut at 6.30pm, or “half six” as many people casually say. Once you hear the story, the name becomes almost impossible to forget.

Running the show here are partners Elaine Yong and CY Mok. Elaine began as a home baker before stepping into the café world, while Mok runs the brewing bar. A self-taught barista involved in Ipoh’s coffee scene since 2013, he keeps the coffee and latte art interesting.

The café’s warm earthy tones and laid-back vibe make it easy to settle in, with chilled music playing on vinyl, softly in the background. A variety of seating options adds to the appeal, from cosy tables ideal for working to relaxed spots perfect for lingering over brunch.

6 & ½ Signature Big Breakfast – RM 32.80 (A plate built for slow weekends and big appetites)

Serving hearty All Day Breakfast plates from 9am to 3.30pm, the menu offers several ways to settle into brunch. Alongside the 6 1⁄2 Signature Big Breakfast, diners can choose from options like Breakfast 318 (RM25.80+) with sausage and bacon, Breakfast 414 (RM23.80+) with roasted potatoes and mushrooms.

The Salmon Brekkie (RM32.80+), or the lighter Breakfast 888 (RM25.80+) a plate of eggs, smoked salmon and vegetables that skips the carbs altogether.

Ciabatta Porky Bacon & Luncheon Meat (RM22.80+ ) Served with side salad tossed in light vinaigrette dressing)

Beyond the breakfast plates, the savoury side of the menu continues with several brunch staples. A warm ciabatta sandwich, cheesy quesadillas and comforting pasta dishes add variety to the table, while lighter bites such as quiche make it easy for groups to order a few plates and share.

Those leaning towards something sweet will find plenty to enjoy as well. Six Half bakes its desserts in house, with favourites like Carrot Cake (from RM13.80+) and Sea Salt Brownies (from RM7.80+) often tempting diners to extend brunch into tea. Coffles also make an appearance, adding another indulgent note to the spread.

Croffle with Peanut Butter & caramelised banana, the café’s signature Camouflage drink, and a selection of house baked cakes

Coffee, naturally, is a big part of the experience here. Mok suggests newcomers start with the café’s signature drink Camouflage ~ a layered combination of matcha, espresso and vanilla milk starting from RM13.50+ for a hot cup. For those who prefer something classic, black coffee starts from RM7.50+, alongside other café favourites finished with neat latte art.

From time to time, the kitchen also introduces seasonal specials. During our visit, Roti Jala with Pork Rendang (RM19.80+) was on offer, prepared in limited batches. The delicate netted crepes soaked up the rich, aromatic rendang beautifully.

With options ranging from hearty brunch plates and proteins to pastas, pastries and aesthetic-looking drinks, the menu offers something for just about every appetite.

Whether you’re catching up with friends or settling in to get some work done, it’s an easy spot to spend a few hours.
