River in Kampung Che Zainal Turns Black, Water Samples Taken for Analysis

By: Aida Aziz

IPOH – Residents of Kampung Che Zainal in Chemor have raised concerns after the river in the area was reportedly found to have turned black.

Ipoh City Council (MBI) councillor Datuk Mazlan Abd Rahman, together with Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) engineer Ir. Safarina and representatives from Kampung Che Zainal, visited the site to assess the situation.

Mazlan said an inspection found that the area nearby was a sand project site, and runoff from the site was believed to have flowed into the river, causing the water to turn black and eventually reach the village.

“This situation has caused anxiety among nearby residents.

“Initial checks with JPS revealed that the matter falls outside their jurisdiction and will need to be referred to the Department of Environment (DOE) for further action.

“For residents’ information, the Department of Environment has also taken river water samples for analysis to determine the safety level of the water.

“I will continue to liaise with the DOE to obtain the latest updates and ensure that appropriate actions are taken to safeguard the well-being of residents and the sustainability of the environment,” he said.
