BATU GAJAH: A recent mud flood incident in Taman Seri Raia was believed to have been caused, among others, by a contractor’s failure to properly maintain the drainage system.

According to Gopeng MP Tan Kar Hing, following the incident, the Majlis Daerah Batu Gajah (MDBG) has issued a notice to the developer to expedite maintenance works by the contractor, including desilting and deepening the retention pond.

“The mud flood incident in Taman Seri Raia recently received serious attention through a site visit conducted last week to identify the root cause of the disaster.

“Findings from the inspection revealed that the main issue stemmed from the contractor’s failure to maintain the drainage system.

“This development will continue to be closely monitored to ensure that both the contractor and developer take the necessary follow-up actions for the safety of residents,” he said, adding that Teja assemblyman Sandrea Ng was also present.

Meanwhile, Sandrea said MDBG had informed that improvement works on the drainage system would be carried out in the near future to improve water flow, reduce flood risks and enhance the area’s preparedness.

“Also present today were representatives from the Taman Seri Raia Residents’ Association to assess the situation on the ground and identify the causes together with MDBG so that more comprehensive solutions can be implemented.

“Our highest appreciation goes to the Residents’ Association and the neighbourhood committee of Taman Seri Raia for their swift response during the recent incident.

“When I visited with my service centre team, many coordination efforts on the ground were made easier thanks to their strong cooperation and concern for the local community,” she said.

Sandrea added that her team would continue to monitor developments closely and ensure that follow-up actions are implemented promptly to safeguard the safety and well-being of residents.
