Gerbang Malam roof issue never ignored, says exco

IPOH: The ongoing roof issue at Gerbang Malam, a popular night tourism spot, has never been ignored by either the state government or the Ipoh City Council (MBI).

Perak Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Sandrea Ng said in response to concerns raised by traders that the matter involves substantial work and cost.

She said additional funding applications have been continuously submitted over the past few years, and whenever allocations are secured, the related works are carried out in stages.

“Although we may not always be able to respond every time the issue is raised, it does not mean that efforts have stopped or been ignored.

“The truth is, this matter has always been on my attention together with MBI, as we understand the complaints of traders and visitors who face discomfort, especially during rainy weather.

“Whenever there is room and opportunity, I will continue to request and push for additional allocations from the relevant parties to ensure the remaining works can be fully completed,” she said.

She added that several developments and related processes are currently ongoing and being monitored from time to time.

“In the meantime, we hope traders will continue to be facilitated and able to conduct their business as smoothly as possible.

“Let us pray that all ongoing efforts will bring positive developments and good news for everyone in the near future,” she said.

Meanwhile, trader Anuar Mohamad expressed hope that the issue would not be allowed to fade away, saying it has persisted for quite some time and is affecting both traders and visitors.

“The roof condition has been ongoing for a long time, affecting traders and visitors, especially during rain. That is why I raised the issue so it continues to be given attention and does not just fade away,” he said.

“Perhaps the YB understands how difficult it is for small traders to earn a living, especially during the rainy season when the trading environment is not comfortable.

“I believe many do not just want promises or processes, but also clearer progress and tangible action on the ground.

“I hope the relevant authorities can share a timeline or more detailed planning so that traders and the public can be more confident that this issue is truly heading towards resolution,” he added.
