Illegal racing in Olive Grove, Taman Pakatan Jaya, is worsening, say residents

By: Aida Aziz

IPOH: Illegal racing activities allegedly taking place in the Olive Grove residential area near Taman Pakatan Jaya, Bercham, are said to be getting increasingly worrying.

A complainant identified as Yogesh said the activities not only cause loud noise at night but also pose a serious safety risk to residents, especially children, senior citizens, and other road users.

Residents in the area also claim that the issue has been ongoing for a long time despite multiple complaints being lodged with the relevant authorities.

“Many residents feel uncomfortable as vehicles are being driven at high speeds and in a dangerous manner in a residential area that is supposed to be a safe and peaceful place to live.

“In addition, there are also vehicles parked indiscriminately along the roadside, making it difficult for residents to enter and exit their homes.

“Residents hope that the authorities, such as the police and relevant agencies will take immediate and stricter action to curb these illegal racing activities from continuing.

“Regular patrols, roadblocks and enforcement actions are needed to ensure the safety, peace and harmony of residents in Olive Grove are always protected.

“We sincerely hope these complaints and concerns are taken seriously for the well-being of all. Do not wait until an unwanted incident happens before action is taken. Residents’ safety must be the priority,” he said.

Another resident claimed that illegal motorcycle racing in the area has existed since they first moved in.

“As a resident of Olive Grove, I would like to express serious concern regarding the ongoing illegal motorcycle racing activities around our residential area.

“The situation has worsened over time. The excessive noise at night is very disturbing, but the bigger concern is the safety risks posed to families, children, senior citizens, and other road users.

“Residents have repeatedly raised this issue for a long time, including requesting basic safety measures such as speed bumps, traffic control systems, better monitoring, or cooperation with authorities. However, to date, no truly effective action has been taken,” he said.

Meanwhile, another individual suggested installing speed bumps in the area.

“Several speed bumps should be installed because the police do come frequently, but the racers know how to escape. They also block roads and do not care about others. Many drivers have to be cautious, but they ignore it,” he said.
