IPOH: Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin has been appointed as the new Perak Chief of Police, marking a change in the police leadership.


He previously served as the Deputy Chief of Police for Penang.
Mohd Alwi replaces Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, who has been promoted to Director of the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department.
The 58-year-old Pusing native has served in the Royal Malaysia Police for 35 years.
Among his previous appointments includes serving as the Principal Assistant Director of Management (Staffing) at Bukit Aman.


Meanwhile, Noor Hisam had served as the Perak Chief of Police for over a year, starting February 17 last year.
He previously served as the Deputy Chief of Police for Pahang and possesses an operational background in the 69 Commando (VAT69) unit.
Earlier, the handover of duties ceremony was witnessed by the Director of the Internal Security and Public Order Department, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess here.
The ceremony holds its own significance as Mohd Yusri also previously served as the Perak Chief of Police from August 2022 to June 2024.
