IPOH – The Merdeka Walkabout programme held in conjunction with the 69th National Day celebration helped foster the spirit of patriotism among the community by encouraging people to fly the Jalur Gemilang.
A total of more than 2,000 Jalur Gemilang flags were distributed to the public during the programme.
The programme was held around Taman DR, Ipoh Padang and Little India.

Perak MIC Youth Chief, Theeageesh Ganesan, said the distribution of the Jalur Gemilang flags aimed to further instil the spirit of independence among the community.
He said the initiative also served as a symbol of the people’s love for the country.
“Patriotism must continue to be nurtured among Malaysians regardless of their background.
“This effort can also strengthen unity and harmony among the country’s multiracial community.

“The programme also provided an opportunity for Perak MIC Youth to engage with the community through social activities,” he said.
The public was also encouraged to fly the Jalur Gemilang as a sign of love and appreciation for the country.
The Merdeka Walkabout programme is expected to further enliven the National Day celebrations and strengthen the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians.
