Yeop Bebenor from Tradewinds - Hotel Istana emerged Champion at the recent Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Charity Treasure Hunt. Team members walked home with RM3,000 and a 4D/3N Phuket/Krabi cruise package for four worth RM8,000.
This year's tenth edition of the hunt organised by the association saw participants, consisting of hotel staff members from all over the country, going through a challenging journey from Sime Darby Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh in search of treasures.
The convoy of 48 cars stopped at smaller towns such as Selayang, Rawang, Serendah, Batang Kali, Tanjung Malim, Slim River, Sungkai and Bidor before arriving at the finishing point at Syeun Hotel in Ipoh.
The 7-hour journey was exhausting yet fun-filled and allowed for the fostering of better relationship between members in the hospitality industry and the public.
Association President, Cheah Swee Hee, in his welcome speech said, "Past treasure hunts since its inaugural hunt in 2005 had taken participants to different destinations like Lake Pedu, Cameron Highlands, Kuala Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Batu Ferringghi, Kuantan and Johor. This year, Ipoh was selected as the final destination, and it gave participants the chance to explore many hidden gems from local culture to popular landmarks along the route. It was only apt as those in the hospitality industry are unofficial tourism ambassadors."
From 2012 onwards, this treasure hunt has been a charity event. This year's beneficiary was Persatuan Daybreak who received RM10,000, while Hannah Home of Ipoh received donations in kind.
First runner-up was Team R2D2 from Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel winning RM2,000 cash. In third place was Team Pikio Yong Pikio!! also from Tradewinds - Hotel Istana, bagging RM1,000.
Tourism Malaysia (Perak) Director, Haji Ibrahim Seddiqi Talib, was the guest-of-honour at the event, which was held at Syeun Hotel, Ipoh on Saturday, September 27.
