Ipoh City Council and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture have taken steps to improve the conditions of the highly popular food court at Dataran Dato’ Sagor in the city. The food court has been in existence for nearly 15 years and is well patronized by both Ipohites and non-Ipohites.
To ensure the safety of the operators some 28 of them were told to move to a temporary site at Jalan Dato Maharaja Lela. This was to enable construction works to proceed unhindered. Works are presently ongoing.
Sarifah Daud, 53 (Kak Pah), operator of Stall No: 3, feels the renovation is timely as it will not only improve facilities but will also provide customers with a safe and comfortable environment.
“Before this, customers suffered much discomfort, especially during rainy days, due to poor and improper roofing. I am happy that the authorities have finally decided to take action after many complaints. Once upgrading is done more people will patronise the place,” she said. Kak Pah wants the Council to install cooling fans, to be located at strategic sites, to enable customers to enjoy a better eating environment. “I am looking forward to completion day. A new-look food court is essential not only for the operators but for Ipohites on the whole,” exclaimed Kak Pah.
AFS Bina Sdn Bhd is the contractor engaged to undertake the renovation works. The entire project is scheduled to complete in mid-November 2015.
