Assessment Tax: MBI is Ready for Discussion to Solve Issue of Arrears

The deadline for the payment of the assessment tax bill for the first term of 2022 ended on 15 March.

A total of 98,625 notices of Form E for the first term have been issued to owners who failed to pay the assessment tax during the period (Section 147, Act 171).

Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said owners need to take immediate steps to make full payment within 15 days from the date of the issued notice.

“On failure to do so, a detention warrant will be issued by the council (the detention cost to be borne by the owner) and the owner’s assets can be seized (Section 148, Act 171).

“For an amount of unpaid arrears up to RM1,000, the imposed annual warrant payment is RM150. For an amount of unpaid arrears more than RM1,000, the imposed annual warrant payment is RM300.

“The council welcomes owners with difficulties in paying assessment tax arrears to be present at the council as a discussion space in the form of negotiation is always open, offering payment in installments according to the owner’s capabilities,” he said during the Ipoh City Council’s (MBI) full board meeting yesterday.

Rumaizi also reminded owners with arrears, including those who failed to pay the agreed installments, to pay the outstanding amount immediately.
