TAIPING: To ensure the safety of visitors, members of the Taiping Fire and Rescue Station patrol around the Burmese Pool recreation area in Bukit Larut.

Burmese Pool is a large rock pool along a stream at the foot of Bukit Larut and is a popular nature weekend attraction among locals.

While patrolling, firefighters also give water safety advice to visitors.

The Taiping Fire Department will always patrol water activity areas on Sundays and advise visitors to be aware of water surges.

Several drowning incidents that occurred in this leisure area caused the authorities to take measures including monitoring from time to time.

In August last year, a man drowned after being swept away by the water surge in the Burmese Pool waterfall area.

The victim was reported missing after slipping into the river when the water surge hit. His body was later found by the rescue team.

In September 2020, a fun family day at the Burmese Pool waterfall recreation area turned into tragedy when one of them was swept away by the water in the afternoon.

The victim, a 45-year-old woman, was said to have been swept away by the strong current while visiting the location with three other family members.
