TAIPING: Steamed glutinous rice and boiled sweet potatoes with grated coconut are served as complements in the Ramadan buffet at Bukit Merah Laketown Resort (BMLR) with the theme of Nostalgia Rasa D’Tasik.

This reminds us of the atmosphere in the past, bringing back memories of our hometown.

Another special attraction is the use of the Apollo rice cooker, which is used for cooking steamed rice.

The cylindrical-shaped pot, tall and pointed at the end, is a popular cooking implement among the northern residents.

On average, villagers in the northern states including Parit Buntar, Bagan Serai, and Taiping choose the Apollo rice cooker to cook rice when hosting festive gatherings.

The rice cooker has shelves for placing rice trays before cooking.

BMLR Executive Chef, Mohd Huzaimi Mahamad Nor, said the Apollo rice cooker is used to recreate the traditional way of cooking rice.

For example, white rice, ghee rice, biryani rice, and other types of rice dishes during festive occasions.

“Indirectly, the use of this Apollo rice cooker will evoke nostalgic memories for visitors.

“At the same time, we want the younger generation to be familiar with this equipment, which is increasingly rare except at festive gatherings,” he said.

BMLR offers 100 menu items, including various desserts for visitors coming to break their fast.

Three sets of menus will be rotated throughout Ramadan prepared by 20 kitchen staff.

The Ramadan buffet price is as low as RM60 for adults and RM35 for children, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens.
