BUKIT GANTANG: With the prices of daily necessities skyrocketing, many, especially those struggling to make ends meet, are forced to tighten their belts.

So, it’s no surprise that when a sale offering affordable prices pops up, many are willing to queue, even under the scorching sun, to get their hands on essential items.

Such was the scene at a recent sale offering daily necessities in preparation for Aidilfitri, held at four locations in Bukit Gantang.

Most started lining up as early as 7 a.m. to purchase fresh beef and other essentials at the grounds of the Bukit Gantang Parliament Service Center.

Other sale locations included Changkat Jering, Trong, and Kampung Permatang Raja.

The offered price of RM30 per kilogram was significantly lower than market rates.

A total of 10 cows, 6 tons of chicken, 7 tons of various fish, and other seafood were sold on the day.

Also available were three tons of rice, 2,000 crates of chicken eggs, and 5 tons of various dry goods.

Member of Parliament for Bukit Gantang, Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, expressed amazement at the overwhelming response from the community as all items were sold out within 2 hours.

“We started this sale as early as 7:30 a.m. and it was all sold out within about 2 hours.

“Some residents who missed out on purchasing have placed orders for chicken and will come to collect them tomorrow,” he said.
