IPOH: Traders operating along the back lane of Jalan Sultan Idris Shah have agreed to dismantle their unlicensed structures following discussions with the Ipoh City Council (MBI).
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, MBI had temporarily suspended enforcement actions against unlicensed traders, including those who had built structures on public reserve land, as part of efforts to ease the burden on the community.
However, beginning in 2023, enforcement measures resumed on a periodic basis, though MBI continued to prioritise engagement and discretionary resolution.
Complaints regarding unlicensed trading activities along the back lane of Jalan Sultan Idris Shah began surfacing last year.
In response, MBI held several meetings with representatives of trader associations and property owners, including the latest session on June 17.
Following negotiations, the trader association agreed to voluntarily remove unauthorised structures in the near future.
MBI said it remains committed to the welfare of small-scale traders and is working to offer legal avenues and appropriate support to help them operate in compliance with existing regulations.
“This is to ensure that business activities are organised and aligned with the rule of law,” it added.
