GERIK: The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) of Hulu Perak, with assistance from the Perak Tiger Unit, is carrying out special monitoring to ensure the safety of residents and road users.

This follows a report of a Malayan tiger being hit by a vehicle along Jalan Felda Lepang Nenering, Pengkalan Hulu last night.

The incident is believed to have occurred at 7.33 pm based on dashboard camera footage that went viral on social media.

The matter was shared by Pengkalan Hulu State Assemblyman (ADUN), Mohamad Amin Roslan, through a post on his Facebook page.

According to Mohamad Amin, he had the opportunity to accompany the Hulu Perak Perhilitan team to the location to obtain a clearer understanding and further details regarding the situation.

Monitoring at the site found that the tiger was no longer in the area and is believed to have retreated into the nearby forest.

However, Mohamad Amin said the animal was reported to be injured, highly aggressive, and capable of posing a threat to anyone.

“The Hulu Perak Perhilitan team, with assistance from the Perak Tiger Unit, will conduct special monitoring to ensure the safety of residents and road users.

“I urge Felda Nenering residents, the local community, and road users to avoid the area for the time being and to stay cautious when passing through the route,” he said.

He also advised local residents to remain vigilant and extended his appreciation to Perhilitan for their swift action.

In November last year, a Malayan tiger died after being hit by a lorry at KM67.1 of the East–West Highway (JRTB) Gerik–Jeli near the Titiwangsa Rest and Recreation (R&R) stop.

Investigations found that the tiger had been struck by a lorry travelling from Gerik to Jeli at around 5.30 am.
