IPOH— As February begins, a year that also marks Visit Malaysia 2026, issues involving infrastructure at key tourist spots are emerging as a major concern among residents.
One such issue involves the deteriorating condition of the clock and bell tower at the Taman Kanak-Kanak (TKK) Food Court, also known as Medan Selera Dato Tahwil Azar, near Jalan Raja Musa Aziz.
A visitor, who is also an Ipoh resident, described the damaged and aging tower as an eyesore that tarnishes the city’s image.

He said the tower had been in disrepair for a long time and had not been properly maintained, despite being located in an area that frequently draws crowds.
“The condition of the bell tower at Taman Kanak-Kanak is very embarrassing in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026.
“I’ve noticed it has been damaged for quite some time and has not been repaired by the local authorities. The bell no longer rings and the digital lights are not functioning,” he complained to Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic.
He expressed hope that the relevant authorities would carry out repairs and proper maintenance at the tourist hotspot without delay.
“Any location that has been repaired must be properly monitored and maintained, not left for the same problems to recur,” he said.
Meanwhile, the issue of homelessness was also raised. He claimed that despite numerous operations being carried out, the problem remains unresolved.
“There are many homeless individuals around Ipoh town, especially in the vicinity of The Store here. The Social Welfare Department (JKM) has conducted dozens of operations.
“But the issue persists. This shows that JKM and the local authorities have failed to address the matter. The presence of the homeless should be handled with a more comprehensive solution,” he added.
