IPOH: To date, no deaths due to tuberculosis (TB) have been reported in either Johor or Perak.
The statement was issued by the Perak State Executive Councillor for Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration, Dato’ Sivanesan A/L Achalingam, based on the latest information received, indicating that the situation remains under control and that no new TB transmission has been detected in Perak.
“There is no transmission, but existing cases are being closely monitored. After we became aware of the statement from Johor, we immediately took all necessary measures,” he said during a press conference at Pantai Hospital’s 30th Anniversary celebration here today.
According to him, as a precautionary measure, all 89 health clinics in Perak have been instructed to remain on standby, in addition to ensuring that screening and treatment procedures are carried out in accordance with established 7guidelines.
He stressed that the public need not be worried as all health clinics and hospitals in Perak are fully equipped and sufficiently prepared to treat TB patients if necessary.
In a related development, the Perak State Health Department (JKN Perak) informed that a total of 100 TB cases were recorded in the state as of the fourth epidemiological week of January 2026. However, infectious diseases are preventable and can be fully cured if treatment is initiated early and followed consistently.
JKN Perak also emphasised that there is no link between the TB cases reported in Kota Tinggi, Johor, and any individuals in Perak, based on current information.
The statement was issued by the Perak State Health Department on February 6, 2026.
