KUALA KANGSAR: The Kuala Kangsar Panjut Festival Competition 2026, being organised for the first time, is expected to enliven the town ahead of the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.

The two-day programme, which begins on March 15, involves an allocation of more than RM30,000 and has attracted participation from 13 villages, seven government departments and agencies, as well as a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

Perak Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the competition is divided into two categories, namely agencies and Village Development and Security Committees (JPKK).

He said entries under the agency category will have their panjut displays exhibited at Persisiran Sayong, while participants in the JPKK category will decorate and display their panjut in their respective villages.

“Participants have begun preparations this week to ensure their displays stand out with creative and attractive panjut decorations.

“We hope the competition will not only add to the festive atmosphere ahead of Aidilfitri but also attract tourists and hometown visitors returning for the celebration,” he said.

He said this when met after inspecting preparations for the event at Persisiran Sayong here today.

Loh added that the initiative would also provide added value in promoting Kuala Kangsar as one of Perak’s tourism destinations.

The official results of the competition are scheduled to be announced on March 16 at Persisiran Sayong.

Winners in both categories will receive RM5,000 for first place, RM4,000 for second place and RM3,000 for third place, while other participants will receive a RM500 consolation prize.
