IPOH:  The Perak state government is strengthening its commitment to education with the continued rollout of the Additional SPM Reference Book Initiative 2026 under the Tuisyen Cikgu Saarani (TCS) programme.

The initiative is led by Yayasan Perak in collaboration with the Perak State Education Department (JPN Perak), aimed at supporting SPM candidates — particularly borderline pass students, by providing structured, concise and effective learning materials for core subjects.

The reference books were developed by experienced teachers based on real learning needs identified among students in the state, with a focus on concept mastery and answering techniques.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the state remains committed to prioritising education as a key part of its development agenda, with continuous support channelled through Yayasan Perak and JPN Perak.

“This year, a total of 63,303 copies of the SPM additional reference books will be distributed to students statewide. This is an increase from the more than 53,000 copies distributed last year, with an allocation of approximately RM1 million,” he said.

For the first time, the initiative is also being extended to SPM candidates from Sekolah Menengah Tahfiz Darul Ridzuan (SMTDR) and Sekolah Menengah Agama Rakyat (SMAR) under the supervision of the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk), widening access to support across different education streams.

Saarani noted that the 2025 SPM results showed improvement, with the State Average Grade rising from 4.63 to 4.49. A total of 26,182 candidates, or 94.44 per cent, qualified for certificates, while the number of students achieving straight As increased to 1,008, including 26 students who scored straight A+.

He said the achievement reflects the effectiveness of the state’s focused approach, supported by various education interventions under Yayasan Perak such as YP Smart Target, Jelajah Nyalaan Bara Api (JNBA), Red Flag Risiko Cicir and Pro Pulih.

“This initiative is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen educational support in a more structured and targeted manner for students who need it,” he said.

The state government will continue reinforcing its education agenda through Yayasan Perak and JPN Perak to ensure a meaningful impact on student performance and the development of Perak’s human capital.
