By Zaki Salleh

Bagan Datuk, May 25 — The attendance of more than 12,000 visitors at the Strategic Defence Plan (PSPN) Carnival for the 4th Division reflected the strong relationship between the community and the military.

Held in a lively atmosphere at Dataran Bagan Datuk last Saturday and Sunday, the carnival brought together various programmes involving the Malaysian Army and the local community.

The programme, organised by the 2nd Malaysian Infantry Brigade in collaboration with the Bagan Datuk District and Land Office, was an initiative under the PSPN 2026-2030 introduced by the Ministry of Defence.

The carnival focused on Pillar 4 of the PSPN, namely the strengthening of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), aimed at increasing public awareness on the importance of jointly defending the nation’s sovereignty.

Among the highlights were unarmed combat demonstrations, military asset exhibitions, a Survival Village, firefighting demonstrations, and exhibitions by security and rescue agencies.

Visitors also had the opportunity to participate in leisure activities such as a fun walk, busker performances, traditional sports competitions, cooking contests, circuit training and lucky draws.

Health and dental screenings, blood donation campaigns, Rahmah sales and mobile library services were also provided for the convenience of the public.

Children and teenagers were not left out, with activities including colouring contests, interactive quizzes and military-themed exercises aimed at giving early exposure to the world of the armed forces.

The carnival also served as a platform to expand public awareness on national security policies, including the Defence White Paper and the Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society (WoGoS) concept.

At the same time, members of the public interested in joining the Territorial Army were allowed to obtain closer insight into the force.

The carnival also helped to foster patriotism while stimulating the local economy through the participation of entrepreneurs and local traders.

Present to officiate the carnival was Khairudin Abu Hanipah, Perak state executive councillor for Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports, representing the Menteri Besar of Perak.

Also present were Commander of the 4th Division Mohd Shauari Mat Piah and Commander of the 2nd Brigade Mohd Rosli Abu Bakar.
