AMSTERDAM – Malaysia Para Hockey Intellectual Disability (ID) Team continues to demonstrate great fighting spirit, courage and discipline in their campaign at the Fédération Internationale de Hockey (FIH) Para Hockey World Cup Belgium & Netherlands 2026.

Despite facing experienced opponents on the international stage, the Malaysian players have shown that they are capable of competing with confidence and determination, refusing to give up until the final whistle.
Deputy Head of Delegation Shanker Retinam said every match had provided valuable experience for the players to improve their performance, build confidence and strengthen team spirit.
“We are proud of the players and their performance. They have given everything on the field.
“Win or lose, this experience is an important part of our journey towards building a stronger team in the future,” he said in a statement.
So far, Malaysia Para Hockey ID have secured a hard-fought 2-2 draw against hosts the Netherlands, while recording victories over Bulgaria and Chile.
The team has suffered only one defeat, against Spain, in a highly competitive and closely contested match.
Shanker said the team’s achievements throughout the tournament should not be measured solely by the results on the scoreboard, but also reflected the hard work, sacrifices, courage and commitment of the entire team in representing Malaysia on the world stage.
He also expressed his deepest appreciation to the coaches, team officials, families, supporters and everyone who has continuously supported the Malaysia Para Hockey ID Team.
Malaysia’s participation in the historic World Cup also carries an important message that sport is for everyone, and every athlete deserves the opportunity to pursue their dreams, make history and bring pride to the nation.
The Malaysia Para Hockey ID Team will continue to carry the spirit of “Malaysia Boleh” and give their very best until the conclusion of the tournament.
