Poor cleanliness and facilities at UTC Perak draw complaints

By Aida Aziz

IPOH: Visitors and Ipoh residents who frequently visit the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Perak have urged the relevant authorities to pay closer attention to the building’s cleanliness, particularly its stairways.

A complainant, identified as Nurzul, said the stairways leading up and down the building in Ipoh resembled those of an abandoned property, claiming they were not properly maintained.

She added that the condition of the lifts had also shown little improvement, saying that during a recent visit to UTC Perak, she found that only one lift was operational.

“Of the two lifts that were previously out of order, one is now working. However, not many people seem to be using it, perhaps because they are worried about getting trapped or uncertain whether it has been fully repaired.

“The cleanliness issue remains unchanged, with cracked walls covered in cobwebs and dust. It seems the building will only be thoroughly cleaned when a VIP is scheduled to visit.

“A building where members of the public conduct their daily business should be properly maintained, including its facilities and other amenities.

“As Ipoh residents in particular, and Perakians in general, we hope the facilities provided will be maintained properly. Maintenance work should not only be carried out when a VVIP is scheduled to visit and funding suddenly becomes available.

“Parking fees and service charges are paid, so these facilities are not free. I urge the relevant authorities to take note of the issues at UTC Perak,” she said.
