Clean Perak Campaign

Ipoh City Council (MBI) held its monthly full-board meeting on Thursday, May 3. Among matters discussed was the council’s financial standing. In the second quarter of 2018 the council had spent RM39.97 million 19 percent less than what was budgeted.

From January 1 till April 23, the council’s One Stop Centre received 649 development proposals of which 285 were approved within the stipulated period.

Mayor Zamri Man alluded to Lonely Planet’s listing of Ipoh as one of the top three coffee spots in Asia besides Chiang Mai and Tokyo. The council, he said, should take the opportunity to promote Ipoh since Lonely Planet is a world renowned travelling website based in London and USA.

Other matters discussed were Ipoh’s Car Free Day. The event will be deferred during the fasting month of Ramadan. The Clean Perak campaign launched on March 31 with the council organising a gotong royong every third Friday of the month. The latest gotong royong was on April 20.

The council conducted a health campaign involving 40 council staff and officers from the Perak Health Department on April 21. It was held at the Perak Stadium. Notices and brochures regarding the dangers of smoking were distributed to spectators. The Perak Stadium is now a gazetted no-smoking venue.
