Gerbang Malam to Be Roofed

Ipoh City Council (MBI) has allocated RM2 million to upgrade Gerbang Malam.

According to the mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, the funding which was approved by the federal government is for installation of roofs of the night market, which has become an iconic tourist spot in Perak.

“Upgrading works will be done periodically,” he said. “The work plan has been done and sent to the Menteri Besar’s office. Once approved, the plan will be executed as soon as possible.

“We hope to add roofing to Gerbang Malam as Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur does, but it’ll have to be done strategically and in stages,” Rumaizi added.

He mentioned that upgrading works will start tentatively next year, due to extension of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) till December 31 this year.

“The number of stalls is still subject to the RMCO, in which physical distancing is absolutely required,” Rumaizi reminded. “No one is exempt from having to abide by SOPs, but should the federal government allow it, stalls will be added.”

Gerbang Malam is located at Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar, Taman Jubilee, 30300 Ipoh, Perak
