The body of a man whose throat is believed to have been slit with a meat cleaver was found yesterday morning, by the police behind a factory in Pekeliling Dataran Kledang, Menglembu.
Ipoh District Deputy Chief of Police, Superintendent Mohamad Nordin Abdullah, said his side had received a MERS 999 call informing them of the discovery of the body of the 58-year-old victim at approximately 9.46am before going to the scene of the incident to investigate.
“As a result of the injuries on the victim’s body, there is a 16-centimeter cut on the neck.
“It is believed that the cuts were made with a meat cleaver found next to the deceased. There are no other traces of crime on the victim’s body, while his mobile phone and identification card are still with him”, he said.
He said the pathologist from Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital confirmed the cause of death was due to an injury to the victim’s neck using a meat cleaver.
“However, an autopsy will be conducted to find the true cause of the victim’s death,” he said.
He said, as a result of the preliminary investigation, it was found that the victim had run a wholesale factory business and was a supplier of fish to the market for the past 10 years.
“The last time the victim contacted his wife, he had told her to take all the money in the bank for the use of herself and their children and signed off with ‘bye’, as if he wanted to leave them,” he said.
Mohamad Nordin said the investigation also found that the victim suffered from depression because the business had financial problems.
