Teach Recycling Practices Starting From Schools

A total of 10 selected schools received donations of trash cans to further promote recycling activities among school students.

The presentation was made by the mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud at the Ipoh Car Free Day Programme at the City Promenade this morning.

The practice of recycling needs to be ingrained into the culture of the citizens of this city to improve the quality of the environment so that the target of Towards a Clean Ipoh is achieved by 2023.

According to Rumaizi, this programme was implemented to give exposure to all school members about the importance of preserving and conserving the environment.

He said this would increase the students’ level of awareness about the practice of recycling waste materials such as paper, glass and metal found around schools and homes so that what is ‘wasted becomes money’.

“The practice of recycling can also create a ‘Circular Economy’ which has a positive impact on the preservation and restoration of the environment in the long term.

“Through the organisation of programmes like this, it is hoped that we can create a network of cooperation between all stakeholders to apply the pure values of the environment.

“It is in line with the state government’s policy with the theme of ‘Perak Sustainable Earth’ along with the theme of National Environment Day 2022 is ‘Shared Responsibility Environment’,” he said while speaking at the event.

The provision of sanitary infrastructure by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) alone is not sufficient if residents are not equally involved in the matter of recycling management.

In this regard, MBI wants to educate the citizens of Ipoh towards cultivating environmental care by using schools as an example.

Rumaizi explained again, that this can also instil and encourage feelings of love for the environment among students.

“Through this programme it is also hoped that the citizens of Ipoh can make the practice of recycling a culture as early as primary school.
