IPOH– The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has allocated a total of RM28.123 million to implement various public infrastructure and development projects across Perak under its Sentuhan Kasih 3.0 outreach programme.

Its Minister, Nga Kor Ming, said the allocation will focus on two major initiatives — the Ipoh Urban Landscape Development Project and the upgrading of the solid waste disposal site at Teluk Cempedak, Pangkor Island.

“A total of RM7 million has been allocated for the Ipoh urban landscape project, which will span 13.5 acres along the Kinta River — from the Sultan Iskandar Bridge to Jalan Leong Boon Swee Bridge,” he said in a statement today.

The second project, worth RM21.123 million, involves upgrading the existing waste disposal site on Pangkor Island with extensive works including land reclamation from the open sea, reshaping existing waste piles into secure containment cells, constructing site infrastructure, installing collection piping systems, building an active cell for bottom ash storage, and setting up a leachate treatment plant equipped with automated systems and complete utilities.

Nga said the project is aligned with the Malaysia MADANI concept, which prioritises compassion and community well-being through sustainable development.

Earlier, Nga officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the five-storey Parking and Commercial Complex at Jalan Panglima in Ipoh. Built on nearly an acre of land, the facility will offer 353 parking bays, ground-floor commercial lots, and a rooftop featuring a creative cultural hub and food court.

“This initiative by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) aims to ease traffic congestion and parking shortages, particularly in the heritage area of Old Town Ipoh which is popular among tourists,” he said.

Nga emphasised that all approved projects are implemented using a performance-based budgeting approach to ensure maximum returns for the people.

“KPKT remains committed to ensuring government spending yields the best outcomes for public welfare, guided by a strong return on investment (ROI) framework for holistic and livable urban development,” he added.
