Nasi Kerabu Diraja, Inspired by Thailand’s Royal Palace, Makes Its First Appearance in Ipoh

IPOH – Have you ever tried the unique Nasi Kerabu Diraja, inspired by the cuisine of Thailand’s royal palace?

If not, it is time to head over to Restoran Dapur Kita (Kak Leha Tempoyak), where the exclusive dish has now become one of Ipoh’s main attractions, offering a dining experience taken to another level.

It is well known that nasi kerabu is traditionally associated with blue-coloured rice served with fresh ulam (herbs and vegetables). However, here it is presented with a distinctive twist that sets it apart from the usual version.

More notably, Nasi Kerabu Diraja is said to be the first of its kind in Malaysia and is only available at the restaurant located opposite Restoran Mohd Chan.

According to Kak Leha, who has been in the culinary industry for 40 years, the inspiration for the dish comes from Thailand’s royal palace cuisine, known for its refined presentation and rich flavours.

“Normally nasi kerabu is blue in colour, but here we present a royal version in yellow, which is more unique,” she said.

The uniqueness of the dish lies not only in its colour, but also in its well-balanced and appetising combination of flavours. The fragrant yellow rice is served with crispy spiced fried chicken, fresh ulam, aromatic spicy sambal, and fried grated coconut that further enhances its appeal.

For those seeking variety, customers may also opt for other protein choices such as mutton, beef, or beef fat, all prepared in a robust traditional kampung-style cooking.

For lovers of traditional Malay cuisine, a visit to Restoran Dapur Kita is not just about satisfying the appetite, but also reliving nostalgic, authentic flavours that are hard to match in Ipoh.
